WWE was all set to host WrestleMania 36 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida until the pandemic derailed all their plans. However, Vince McMahon stuck to his motto of "The Show Must Go On" and decided to go ahead with the event from the WWE Performance Center.

An event that could've happened in front of 70,000 fans occurred inside an empty building, and the company had to tape the show in advance. It was the first time a WrestleMania aired on tape delay and over two nights, and the latter went on to become the new normal as WWE continued the formula by having the subsequent WrestleMania events as a 2-night spectacle.

The fact that WWE taped the shows ten days in advance made Vince McMahon worry that someone might spill the results to the dirt sheets. Mike Johnson of PWInsider reported that WWE took extreme protective measures, including splitting up the backstage agents so that those who worked the first night didn't know the results of the second night. A Sports Illustrated report stated that McMahon even threatened to fire anyone who leaked the results.
