Eddie Guerrero's 2002 was one of reckless excellence.

'Latino Heat' had returned to WWE in April having taken control of the personal demons that had cost him the same role just under a year earlier. In his time away, he'd gained renewed credibility with the hardcore fanbase through a celebrated spell on the indies, provided Ring Of Honor with much-needed credibility on launch, and fleshed out in-ring offering that was already sharper than many of his contemporaries.

Feuds with Rob Van Dam, Edge and the fondly remembered SmackDown tag team division of the day spoke to these adjustments - Guerrero elevated midcard action to major league attractions time after time, including in this ladder match main event against RVD.

He was a man clearly prepared for every new challenge and eventuality, including a dangerously thick ring invasion from an Edmonton, Alberta local. The fan rushed the ring as the Intercontinental Champion scaled the ladder, pushing it clean over and forcing Guerrero to abandon the match entirely for the good of his own safety.

Having the wherewithal and poise to land on his feet was in keeping with athleticism and spelled danger for the idiotic audience member. Guerrero levelled him with a stiff potshot as security hauled him away.
