6. That He Painted Himself As Someone Ill-Fitting Of WWE
One thing that's often forgotten throughout the whole CM Punk vs. the WWE system argument is that it was the wrestler himself who started crowing about how he didn't fit into their plans, not the other way around. As explored elsewhere in this article, WWE have only ever handed Punk things, whilst he has seemingly viewed them as not being enough. It was CM Punk who started jawing off in promos about how he was being held down, the performer himself who began remarking that he could never be the poster boy for the promotion, because he didn't fit into their mind set or way of doing things. This positioned Punk as somewhat of an anomaly, but it was all his doing. Pretty much flat out saying that he was the antithesis of what World Wrestling Entertainment wanted to present their product as, Punk painted himself as an outsider of sorts. The character did lead to a lot of success, because if there's one thing wrestling fans have shown over the years, it's that folks sure love someone looking to buck the trend. However, Phil Brooks can't sit back and claim WWE pushed him aside, he was always standing with one foot in the doorway anyway, by his own volition.
