6. Trained By The Best
The developmental system has long been an important aspect of WWEs progression as a company. Currently, theres NXT but before there was FCW, OVW, Deep South and way back in the late-nineties prospective WWE Superstars were sent to Dory Funk Jrs Funkin Dojo. Dory Funk Jr is the son of legendary Dory Funk and brother to the equally infamous Terry Funk, and while Terry is often the more memorable of the Funk family, Dory Jr is a legend in his own right. A former NWA World Heavyweight Champion, he held the belt for 1564 days and is the fifth longest reigning champion in history. In 1999, he established the Funking Conservatory wrestling school, which started out as a six-day training camp but quickly evolved into a three week programme. In addition to the Conservatory, he ran the Funkin Dojo which was the WWF-affliated aspect of the camp, overseen by Funk and WWFs Dr. Tom Prichard. Over a short space of time, the Funkin Dojo cranked out an impressive roster of athletes including Kurt Angle, The Hardy Boyz and Lita. Christian attended the camp on the back of a good word from Edge, who was already on the main roster, and after completion he joined his best friend and The Brood wouldnt be far away.
