Despite being universally regarded as an electrifying performer, The Rock's name never really crops up in discussions of pure in-ring talent. His name doesn't belong in the same category as Ric Flair, Shawn Michaels, or Eddie Guerrero - he simply isn't as much of a natural wrestler. However, this doesn't mean that Rocky has entirely escaped critical acclaim. In fact he's done pretty damn well. Johnson has been involved twice in Pro Wrestling Illustrated's illustrious Match of the Year, the first his brutal encounter with Mankind at Royal Rumble 1999, the second his blockbusting clash with Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania X8. The difference between the two display his versatility; neither are classics in terms of workrate, yet both require very different types of storytelling ability. These aren't his only PWI accolades either; Rock was also voted Wrestler of the Year in 2000, and held the title of Most Popular Wrestler for two years in a row.
