1. He Turned Down WWE Because Of The Treatment Of Booker T
Everyone knows that Sting has turned down the WWE on a number of occasions, before finally buckling and signing a legends deal in 2014. But what is perhaps lesser known is the reasoning behind why he turned Vince McMahon down at perhaps the best opportunity to sign - just after the WWE had purchased WCW. Plenty of top WCW stars like Booker T made the leap across the great wrestling divide at that time, but Sting flat out refused. Many younger wrestling fans who had an interest in both promotions were perplexed over Sting's decision to turn down WWE, but he explained why he made the call not long after. Sting claims he had seen what had happened to WCW talents that had made the switch, claiming they had to "start from the bottom of the ladder all over again". He pointed out McMahon's treatment of Booker T - a WCW legend - as a prime example, saying that the way he was booked against an "unknown rookie" such as The Rock was all wrong, and made him realise that signing with WWE wouldn't have been beneficial for his career. Thus, he let his contract with WCW expire, and he went it alone, going to work in Europe with World Wrestling All-Stars in 2002. The video where Sting explains his decision to turn down WWE is around on YouTube; but you imagine the WWE will want to keep it pretty quiet after the recent news of his signing at long, long last.
