10 Things You Didn't Know About WWE's Hell In A Cell Gimmick

1. The Forgotten Raw Matches

There's a connotation that Hell in a Cell is a big pay per view kind of gimmick. That's mostly true; however, in the first year of its existence, Hell in a Cell actually featured on Monday Night Raw on two separate occasions. The first Raw Cell match was The Undertaker and Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Mankind and Kane. It happened on the June 15th 1998 broadcast, ending in a 'no contest' after ten minutes. For that reason, it has been expunged from history somewhat, with some people not acknowledging it in Cell canon. On August 24th 1998, WWE did another Cell match on Raw. Once again, this ended in a no contest, meaning it has been neglected from memory in the annals of Cell history. This time around it was Mankind vs Kane, lasting just a paltry 7 minutes and 41 seconds. Finally, on September 26th 2011, WWE actually used the Hell in a Cell for a Raw dark match! John Cena defeated Alberto Del Rio, CM Punk, Dolph Ziggler, and Jack Swagger. So while you may think that Hell In A Cell is for special occasions only, you never know, you might just see it as a dark match when attending Raw!
