10 Things You Didn't Know About WWE's Hell In A Cell Gimmick

5. The Reason WWE Brought In A New Cell

The cell you see nowadays in WWE is a totally different structure from the classic gimmick. The new cell came into being at Unforgiven 2006, when Triple H and Shawn Michaels wrestled the team of Vince McMahon, Shane McMahon and The Big Show. The structure was significantly taller and wider. It wasn't to accommodate the size of The Big Show or the bodies involved in the match, the dimensions change was actually done because of HD's impending arrival. WWE felt like the old cell had became too dishevelled after 9 years of battering, and feared the future HD cameras would make the cell look minor league. There was also an element of logic that a bigger cage looked more impressive. In truth, some fans barely even noticed. However, those of who us remember the old cell, will always prefer its intimacy and claustrophobic element. The tighter proportions and lower roof actually made it that bit more intimidating. The new bigger cell is just a piece of staging really, whereas the old cell was an actual part of the magic.
