10 Things You Don’t Know About WWE In 1996

4. Razor Ramon, Not Roddy Piper, Was Supposed To Face Goldust At Wrestlemania 12

One of the more memorable matches at Wrestlemania 12 was the Hollywood Backlot Brawl between Intercontinental Champion Goldust and Interim President Rowdy Roddy Piper. The match combined elements of Piper€™s movie They Live with inter-spliced images of the OJ Simpson White Bronco chase, ending in the ring with Piper stripping Goldust down to his lady garments. But that wasn€™t the original plan. The original plan involved Razor Ramon attempting to win back his Intercontinental Championship in a Miami Back Alley fight. The match was even promoted on the February 19 episode of Monday Night Raw, and Razor was featured on the promotional poster for the event. However, a combination of Razor€™s contract expiring and receiving a drug-related suspension later that month forced the WWF to switch gears. Piper replaced Razor on all house shows, and was inserted into the feud with Goldust. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wy5H_oSg3q4 Razor would return, albeit briefly, and would make one final Pay Per View appearance in a loss to Vader at In Your House: Good Friends, Better Enemies before bolting for WCW and starting a revolution.
