10 Things Everybody Gets Wrong About ECW
8. ECW Made Paul Heyman
Paul Heyman became a grizzled, overworked pariah of the major leagues who built ECW's extreme philosophy brick by bloody brick. He was everything the fat cats tried to squash, the narrative screamed, and he was your pro wrestling promoter. Part of that is true (Heyman did have everyman qualities), but he had a career pre-ECW too.
Before putting all his eggs in one basket and going the promoter route, Heyman was slick-suit-wearing, fast-talking, cellphone-toting heel manager Paul E. Dangerously, and he was damn good at it. Indeed, any WWF devotees who ignore anything NWA/WCW are doing themselves a disservice by not checking out some of Paul E's work.
ECW didn't make Paul Heyman; he was somebody before it.
The old managerial qualities of before have popped up in the modern era since Heyman returned to WWE in 2012. He's that slimy agent again, albeit older and less likely to take mullet-shaking bumps. Honestly, as a manager, Paul was one of the best.
