10 Things Happening In WWE Right Now You Wouldn't Have Believed 12 Months Ago
1. The Return Of Starrcade
Similarly to WarGames, the revival of the iconic Starrcade event was a shock to many within the wrestling world. WWE is evidently softening on their anti-WCW stance and the reintroduction of the company's showcase event is a big deal.
Viewed by many as WCW's version of WrestleMania, Starrcade was the biggest event in the calendar for the Atlanta promotion. In reality, the show actually pre-dates WrestleMania, with the first edition taking place in 1983. Headline feuds habitually culminated at the event, while it also played host for countless great matches and historic moments.
Starrcade '97 saw Hollywood Hogan square off with Sting in the climax of their year-long angle, while the 1998 edition saw Kevin Nash end Goldberg's epic undefeated streak at 173-1. The demise of WCW saw the last Starrcade take place in 2000, headlined that night by Scott Steiner and Sid Vicious battling for WCW Championship.
Since then, the void has been filled by independent event, WrestleCade - a weekend festival celebrating the iconic event of yesteryear. Nevertheless, after a 17 year hiatus, fans will get the real deal; the fact that it's held at the Greensboro Coliseum makes it all the more special.
WWE should be applauded for reviving an event so close to many old school wrestling fans' hearts - hopefully it's not the last.
