10 Things I Hate About WWE Champion Dean Ambrose

5. His Offence Is Often Ridiculous

The rebound lariat is supposed to be an unpredictable, edgy move: an idiosyncratic, pugnacious counter to being thrown into the ropes. When done properly and at the right time, it perfectly suits Ambrose’s character, and used to get a fairly decent pop as a mid-match comeback move.

The trouble is, Ambrose has been using it as a signature move in every single match he wrestles for a long time now, and often without a proper set-up - watch when his opponent doesn’t have anything else to do in the ring but stand there and wait for him to clumsily bounce back and lunge at them. It’s telegraphed and contrived, and it looks ridiculous.

It’s even worse when he throws himself back into the ropes. What the hell is that about?

But worse than anything else is that bunnyhop off the turnbuckle, when he runs to the corner, hops off the rope and nonchalantly strolls back to hit a clothesline or a forearm.

Whatever this is supposed to be, it looks like sucked up, thrown up crap. Rather than adding to his momentum, it clearly derails it: turning a sprint into the corner into a jog back out.

It’d be nice if those two horrible moves were the only problem with his work in the ring, but...
