10 Things Kenny Omega Must Do In NJPW 2017
1. Cement His Legacy In Japan
With all the things Kenny Omega has done in the previous year, it was really no surprise that he started to look elsewhere after his Tokyo Dome loss. AJ Styles (and to a lesser extent Nakamura) were not overlooked in the way that Kenny was in his first stint with WWE, proving that WWE does in fact recognise wrestling achievements in other companies. This may have made it very tempting for Kenny to leave Japan and try to expand his influence on the wrestling business on the biggest stage there is.
However, if you listen to any of the interviews Kenny has done over the course of his career, you'll know that he didn't end up in Japan by accident. Nor did he leave his native Canada purely to further his wrestling career. He has always had a very strong affinity for the Japanese people and culture. He has immersed himself to the point where he can now put his promo skills to use in two languages. Most importantly, after winning the G1 Kenny spoke to the Japanese crowd telling them that this was his home, and that he would not go "there".
Kenny has openly stated that one of his goals has been to become the best foreign wrestler Japan has ever had, or indeed the best wrestler never to go to the WWE. Obviously his feelings have changed since then, but at only 33 years old, Kenny could devote one or two more years to solidifying his impressive legacy in the world of Japanese wrestling.
