There's a misconception that exists throughout the sports-entertainment world, one that Bruce Prichard seemingly set straight on his podcast covering Owen Hart. Towards the end of 1993 and the entire year of 1994, top babyface Bret Hart was embroiled in a program involving his jealous younger brother Owen that produced numerous in-ring classics, including the main event of SummerSlam '94. Based on various interviews on the program, the misconception is that another Hart brother, Bruce, was meant to be Bret's 1994 villain.

According to Bruce Prichard, it is a fact that Bruce Hart pitched Vince McMahon the storyline that eventually went to Owen, but Bruce Hart was not the first one to suggest the program. As per the podcast, Prichard and Pat Patterson floated the idea of a family feud where Owen turned on his older brother, Bret.

At first, Bret was against the angle and had it nixed. This is when Bruce Hart came to Vince with a more fleshed out program. Vince went back to Bret with the more detailed idea penned by Bruce Hart, and after several days of deliberating, Bret agreed to do it but with Owen instead of Bruce. Bret believed Owen deserved it more.
