By far one of the most entertaining stories from the vast bank of tales William Regal has to tell also involved his good friend, Robbie Brookside. An old Butlins resort in England had been bought over, with the promoter looking to bring back the glory days for the holiday camp, running a series of wrestling shows as part of his planned entertainment line up. Traveling to the venue in an ambulance (!?) that also contained a 14-foot ring, Regal and Brookside were accompanied by two other wrestlers and the promoter himself, who was also doubling as the referee to cut costs. Upon arriving at the cavernous, 2,000-seater venue, Regal quickly noticed there was literally nobody there. Two of the wrestlers pulled out, so the promoter/official simply called over the two bar staff and waiter, putting chairs out for them, and Regal and Brookside proceeded to wrestle for almost half an hour. According to Regal, this went on for weeks, and he was paid in full for the work, even though there were literally no fans. And people think TNA is poorly promoted!
