10 Things Missing From WWE Today

7. Crowds Into Shows, Not Themselves

One thing that is immensely noticeable from watching any show from the long long ago is how insanely into the matches the crowd are. It adds so much, seeing crowds pop for what is happening in the ring as opposed to sitting there in a manner that screams 'go on, entertain us'. Go back and watch any late 80's/early 90's WWF show and you'll see throngs of people losing their minds over arm-drags.

Crowds today have a tendency to be out for themselves, and it is as frustrating as it is embarrassing. Sure, singing to Bayley throughout a segment may show how popular she is, but it completely demeans and devalues the segment that she is involved in. When crowds react to what happens in the ring as opposed to what they think they want, the show itself immediately improves.

There are a plethora of reasons why crowds are no longer as into what goes on in the ring, and despite the value of those reasons it can't be denied that it is taking away from the product.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
