6. Variety In The Ring

It is one of the reasons the Cruiserweight division isn't really working on Raw right now, and it has become increasingly apparent to anyone paying attention over the last few years. As pro wrestling has evolved it has evolved out of control, and somewhere along the way the desire to see more and more 'moves' from our wrestlers has led to those moves being devalued.

People malign John Cena for his Five Moves of Doom or whatever it is, but those moves all matter. Superkicks and suicide dives should be exciting, but they no longer are. Why should the audience care seeing Sin Cara perform a suicide dive if Luke Harper and Dean Ambrose are going to do them later in the night? If Dolph Ziggler uses the superkick as a finisher is it not dulled by the fact Rusev, Kevin Owens, and The Usos are already using it as a transitional move?

Years ago moves were synonymous with performers. The DDT was used by Jake Roberts and Jake Roberts alone. If someone used the Sharpshooter it was a mark of disrespect to Bret Hart. Now that the scope of pro wrestling moves has grown there is no reason why the performers can't have different move sets in the ring to add some sort of variety to the shows.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
