10 Things Modern WWE Could Learn From Its Golden Era
1. More Characters
On the current main roster, there are very few recognisable characters.
Sure, there are the likes of Elias, R-Truth, and The New Day, but very few other performers have something notable about their on-screen personalities. This goes for undercarders and main eventers alike.
This wasn't a problem back in the Golden Era. 'Macho Man' Randy Savage. The Ultimate Warrior. Jake 'The Snake' Roberts. The Undertaker. All of these names create vivid images in the minds of wrestling fans, because their characters were so well defined.
Sure there were goofy characters like The Red Rooster and Tugboat, but at least they were memorable. Who's going to remember Bo Dallas in a few years' time? Or Bobby Roode? Or Gallows and Anderson? Very few people based on their main roster WWE careers, that's for sure.
Characters like The Velveteen Dream in NXT show that WWE fans do have an appetite for big personas. Dream has become a star not because of his in-ring ability, but because of the way he presents himself as a character.
If WWE want people to get behind their wrestlers, then they need to start making them all stand out from each other. And not just by renaming them "The Viking Experience".
