10 Things You Need To Know About Ric Flair's Original WWF Run

10. Flair Could Have Jumped Ship Even Earlier

After WCW management disrespected Flair€™s close friends Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard, waves were made by Vince McMahon to acquire them to add to his stable of talent. While they wouldn€™t initially jump, Vince McMahon got the idea to later pursue them. Lost in that pursuit, were his conversations with Ric Flair in the spring of 1988. According to Flair€™s book, €œTo Be The Man,€ Vince called him with a straightforward question. McMahon smoothly asked, €œWhat do you think about coming to the World Wrestling Federation?€ From there he laid out a plan that involved him challenging the Macho Man Randy Savage in the main event, for the WWE Championship at the first SummerSlam, which was being held later that year. It€™s stunning to think what could have happened had Flair jumped at that moment. We pretty much have to rewrite the next 3 years of WWE. Naturally, Flair was flattered with that offer, but didn€™t consider himself politically astute to deal with a man he didn€™t really know that well. He was thrilled with the chance, but Flair was ultimately loyal to the NWA.
