5. The Superstars Are Almost Always Scripted

Don't like that promo by Roman Reigns? Not his fault. He didn't call the play, he is just running what the coach signaled in. Hate JBL on commentary? He is fed by Vince McMahon through an earpiece. Not his fault. Word for word, match for match, move for move, WWE brass has micromanaged their talent to devastating effects. No one is allowed to be special. No one can get over, and everyone stays still in a world where everything is equal.

As fans of wrestling, we know that it is a scripted show, but hear me out. There should, at least, be aspects of the show that are organic in nature. It drives me crazy to see promos where the script clearly tells the performer to pause for reaction. I hate to see the gears turning in the eyes of a superstar frantically trying to remember what his next line was supposed to be. I hate that Vince McMahon doesn't trust his performers to be the representation of the character he chose for them. Most of all, I hate that wrestling is not organic anymore. We react when there are pauses in the promo. We wait for the next line in the script. Pavlov's dog we are.

WWE needs the shock factor it once had. The anything can happen state of WWE is badly needed again. Hopefully new fans will be able to see this come to fruition. If performers aren't allowed to get over and everyone is equal, how is there ever a new star created? Let the individuals sink or swim. That is how new stars and organic, invested stories are made.
