WrestleMania XX was marketed as ‘where it all begins again.’ With that, WWE returned to its original stomping ground, Madison Square Garden. It is an illustrious building and an integral venue in the mythos of WWE. It makes sense that they returned there for their big anniversary marquee event.

However, the following year was held in the Staples Centre, a similarly sized arena in Los Angeles. For WrestleMania 22, they occupied yet another arena, in the Rosemont Horizon, Illinois. Why were these two held in arenas rather than stadiums?

The three ‘Manias before XX were in stadiums, and since 23 every Showcase of the Immortals has been in a stadium (including their thirtieth rendition, where WWE seemed to have moved away from acknowledging New York as a home base).

What had inspired WWE to host their biggest events in smaller venues? Was their post-Attitude economy suffering that badly? Before establishing WrestleMania as a weeklong extravaganza, did they receive better deals from their chosen smaller venues? An insight into the economic reasoning behind their decisions would make the second series of Ruthless Aggression must watch.
