10 Things NXT Did Specifically To Beat AEW

10. Moving To TV

Triple H NXT
WWE

Might as well get this one out of the way. Despite how critically adored the product has become, despite how regularly it's the best thing WWE has going for it, despite all the successes it's had away from the main-roster, there is no way NXT would have moved to weekly TV were it not for AEW.

This time last year it was positioned as one of the major reasons to shell out on a WWE Network subscription; now, its role is to ensure that North American Professional Wrestling's first genuine slice of competition since WCW folded does not get an easy run. It's there to stop them getting a foothold on Wednesday nights, because if they can't do that they can't take on Mondays and Fridays either.

It's a cynical move, yes, but like so much of what WWE does it shouldn't detract from the bigger picture. That picture being that we now get four potentially brilliant slices of televised wrestling a week instead of just two. AEW will want to have the greatest show on TV each and every week, but NXT's unique structure means there's no reason they won't be able to regularly make that claim too.
