10 Things NXT Did Specifically To Beat AEW

8. Opening Their First Show With A Women's Match

AEW has done a lot right since they launched, and pretty much everything they've tried to achieve in-ring has paid off already. Even the Jericho/Hangman feud, despite looking an underwhelming main-event and not generating much interest in the identity of their first World Champion, managed to deliver belatedly.

However, their women's division has been beset with problems since the outset. All In came under fire for seemingly making its women's match an afterthought, their initial roster announcements had only Britt Baker as any sort of big name, Kylie Rae's departure from the company still has a number of questions hanging over it, and the in-ring incident between Bea Priestley and Sadie Gibbs (which allegedly led to punches being thrown backstage) generated all the wrong types of headlines.

Meanwhile, for the criticism of the #WomensRevolution as a cynical marketing strategy, the end result has been a simply stacked female roster that continues to cycle fresh talent through to Raw and SmackDown. Even without Shayna Baszler, NXT's first match was a tremendous showcase of talented and recognizable faces that's led to major interest in this week's championship match.

This is not a coincidence.
