10 Things NXT Did Specifically To Beat AEW
7. "Limited Commercial Interruptions"
No sooner was the news breaking that AEW would be getting a fair chunk of its airtime handed over to advertisers, were NXT telling you to tune in next week to a place where your viewing experience wouldn't be sullied by commercials. As effective a slice of counter-programming as any match or feud, if they see a chink in AEW's armour they're going to exploit it.
It shouldn't really matter, but if you have two wrestling products on at the same time and you've got no real knowledge of or loyalty to either, one not having frequent ad breaks is going to seem the more appealing. That's a small slice of the audience admittedly, but it draws them in with a feature that AEW simply can't currently compete with.
It's a small move on their part, but one that demonstrates just how ruthless positioning NXT as a direct competitor is. WWE doesn't ever need it to really make money, so instead that can produce it in a way that just stops AEW from making any themselves.
