10 Things Only 90s Wrestling Fans Will Understand

9. Must-See Monday Night Raw

The same could be said for that WWE institution, Monday Night Raw.

This isn't just an Attitude era love in either, because Raw was sexy and different when it launched back in 1993 too. OK, so it didn't have raunch, extreme violence or actual sex appeal, but it was totally out there compared to the legions of squash-match heavy shows like Superstars, Wrestling Challenge, Mania and more.

Towards the end of the decade, Raw became so unmissable that you were actively bullied if you didn't know what was going on. Seriously, this writer literally witnessed one kid called James get picked on because he didn't know that Steve Austin had won the belt back from Kane 24 hours after King Of The Ring 1998.

That's how culturally important Raw was. Nowadays, though it definitely isn't nearly as awful as some would like folks to believe, it's a three-hour slog. Even the creative team find it punishing to get through despite having a top class roster at their disposal.
