10 Things Only 90s Wrestling Fans Will Understand
8. Four Or Five Pay-Per-Views A Year Max
If you still get all nostalgic for Royal Rumble-WrestleMania season and maybe even groan when you bend down to pick things up, then you're old enough to recall a time when pay-per-views were an occasion. Back in the early-'90s, before the WWF changed their format to include In Your House gap-fillers, fans had a grand total of five to enjoy.
Of course, you could always spill over to WCW and check out some of their events, but that meant more cash.
Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, King Of The Ring (from '93 onwards), SummerSlam and Survivor Series were the only offerings from Vince McMahon's group. If you lived in the States and had access, WCW served up alternatives for fans who couldn't get enough.
Compare that to 2019 and it's ridiculous how much content fans have at their fingertips. This year alone, WWE stand to produce 15 full-length pay-per-view level shows, and that's before taking into account NXT specials, the house show previews like Smackville and that Evolve card they chucked on the Network.
