10 Things That Are No Longer Special About WWE Royal Rumble
6. The Royal Rumble Match Itself
The Royal Rumble match may still be regarded as one of WWE’s most fantastic attractions, but the "integrated media company" hasn't done much in recent times to preserve the core elements that made it an entertaining exhibition for over 30 years.
Seeing a battle royal on the occasional program or PPV didn’t take anything away from the Rumble. This was primarily because the matches were latticed with additional components or stipulations, and they often featured far fewer competitors than the traditional 30 wrestlers.
Over time, though, WWE often tries to replicate its previous successes, even if the result is a bland imitation. This is why WWE can't have nice things.
When WWE introduced contests such as the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal and The Greatest Royal Rumble (which was even bigger than "The Biggest Rumble Ever" in 2011), the original over-the-top-rope elimination match was stripped of some glory.
By large, the traditional Royal Rumble is considered the only legitimate one by many diehard fans and still serves as the 2nd most anticipated event of the year in the WWE bubble. Even so, the sports entertainment factory should do its best to keep the battle royal as unique as possible.
