10 Things That Are No Longer Special About WWE Royal Rumble

5. Women In The Men's Royal Rumble

One of the rarer moments that often incited an earsplitting crowd response was the sight of a woman wrestler in the Men’s Royal Rumble match. Unlike many other of WWE’s battle royal tricks, it was one that wasn’t often replicated. Perhaps the sports entertainment company would have abused the stunt if it could have, but roster restraints often played a significant factor in frequency.

Nevertheless, only four women dared to step foot in the Royal Rumble match: Chyna, Beth Phoenix, Karma, and Nia Jax. The limited number of performers maintained some of the act’s shock-value, which made it bittersweet to say goodbye with the introduction of the Women’s Royal Rumble match.

There may still be future opportunities for women to cross over, as Jax made to jump in 2019 after losing earlier in the night. Regardless, they are likely to happen less often as time goes on. Some women only entered the men’s bout because there was no equivalent for their division at the time. For this one, it’s not so much that WWE ruined a special spot as much as it smiled and moved on in a more meaningful direction.
