NJPW has something special in one of its current young lions. Katsuya Kitamura isn’t like the rest, and that is blindingly obvious to anyone with two working eyes and a cursory understanding of professional wrestling. Kitamura is a beast with charisma that can’t be taught, and he could well be a megastar-in-waiting.

He isn’t young, however, and the clock is ticking on the big man’s career. 2018 is going to be a pivotal year for Kitamura, and it is vital that NJPW gets the most out of him before it is too late. The in-ring quality will certainly take a hit as he moves his way up the card, but he brings something to the table that men like Hirooki Goto, Togi Makabe and Minoru Suzuki don’t have.

Kitamura is an outside bet to win the annual Wrestle Kingdom Rumble, and a spot in the G1 Climax should be in his future. He isn’t going to blast his way to championships overnight, but sending him out on an excursion might be more detrimental than helpful. Get him in some singles matches, and unleash the beast.

One extra thing while on the subject - David Finlay needs to go out on excursion, yesterday.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
