10 Things That Nearly Happened At WWE Survivor Series

1. Big Show Replaced Steve Austin Against The Rock And Triple H In 1999

It was supposed to be the biggest triple threat match ever as WWE Champion Triple H was set to do battle against his two main rivals The Rock and Steve Austin. I was actually at Survivor Series 1999 in Detroit that night and I was so excited to see that match. Plans changed during the event when Austin was shown in a parking lot as a car randomly ran him over, taking him out of the main event. I was so mad about it because Austin was my favorite wrestler at the time (as he was for many people), so to have him taken out like that was devastating. Austin was replaced in the match by Big Show, who WWE tried to push a lot in his first year. For the finish, Vince McMahon nailed Triple H with the title belt and Show capitalized with the Chokeslam to win his first WWE Title. The hit and run driver angle was done to write Austin out of storylines for the next year because he needed major neck surgery. In the two months prior to that match, Austin was wrestling on a limited schedule due to injury, although he did have a match with Triple H at the No Mercy PPV a month before Survivor Series. We had no idea Austin would be taken out. Only those close to the situation did. A blatant case of not only Survivor Series plans changing, but also a case of false advertising.
