In most workplaces, there is a code of conduct to be followed and varying degrees of misconduct. If you’re consistently late for work, or you’re off sick excessively, you may go through some form of disciplinary process. In some instances, you may do something so seriously wrong or unacceptable that it is deemed as gross misconduct, resulting in the termination of your employment. But not in wrestling.

The prime example of this would be the legendary Steve Austin-Vince McMahon feud in the Attitude era. Look at the catalogue of misdemeanours that Austin committed against his boss: punching him, kicking him in the groin, stealing a beer lorry and soaking his boss with the contents, and pulling a gun on him (OK, so it was a fake gun, but even so….). Yet through all of this, McMahon allowed Austin to return to Raw week after week, despite knowing that there was a very real chance of him being assaulted once more. At no point was Austin hauled into an employment tribunal or put on ‘gardening leave’: further evidence of the unique environment that is professional wrestling. Let’s face it, we wouldn’t have it any other way.
