10 Things That Prove December Is The Worst Month For Wrestling
6. Nobody Watches Around The Holidays
Over the past few years, WWE's ratings have been in a free fall. The numbers for Raw have reached levels not seen since prior to the Attitude Era, while Smackdown's own ratings got so bad that the USA Network forced WWE to reinstitute the brand split in order to get people to watch.
Ratings get particularly bad around the holidays, and that's really no surprise - after all, the programs always air on the same day of the week, which put them directly in conflict with Christmas Eve, Christmas day, or New Year's Eve some years. Even when a show doesn't fall out on a holiday, numbers still dip, as people are usually doing other things.
How does WWE respond? Usually by putting on abysmal holiday-themed programming. Wrestlers dress as Santa Claus, wrestlers get into fights with Santa Claus - sometimes, wrestlers even accidentally run over Santa Claus with their cars. On second thought, maybe that's why ratings get so low.
