Forget the Monday Night War of the late '90s, the Wednesday Night War is the biggest talking point in wrestling today.

Every Wednesday, wrestling fans are faced with the decision of what programme to watch, AEW Dynamite on TNT or NXT on USA. Both companies behind the products have been in a continual game of one upping each other in order to attract the higher TV rating. While AEW has taken a more subtle approach to this, NXT... not so much, "AEW had a steel cage match? So how about two steel cage matches!", "AEW is having an eight man single-elimination style tournament? So how about an eight man round-robin style tournament! Haha we have more, aren't we so fun!".

For the most part, Tony Khan's All Elite crew have dominated the ratings battle, taking victory most weeks. But lately, there has been a shift in the landscape. NXT has started taking sporadic ratings victories, one week here and two weeks there. Soon enough, NXT could be going on a month long streak. Not only this but the number of viewers for both programs continue to rise and this rate of growth, by the end of the year, the ratings realistically could sit at a two million weekly viewers on a consistent basis.

Ring your friends, because due to the mainstream popularity of AEW and NXT, wrestling is slowly starting to become cool again. By the time the new year celebrations come around and we are all celebrating with a little bit of the bubbly ourselves, the ratings war will have peaked at over a two million viewers across both shows, every single week.
