Donald Trump winning the United States Presidential election is largely attributed to voters in the Rust Belt section of the country feeling that their voice wasn’t being heard. While the country as a whole has rebounded from the financial crisis of 2007-2008, there were still millions who felt their lives weren’t getting any better, so they wanted to shake up the entire system.

Millions of people feel that the Democratic Party has failed the working class, much like WWE has done a poor job of reaching out to their casual fans. Even Vince McMahon would have to state the obvious if he were to keep any trust from the WWE Universe: Over these past eight years, a huge chunk of his audience has simply vanished. The Oct. Raw averages of in 2008 were 2.98. In 2016, they were 1.99.

These men, women and children felt their opinions didn’t matter. Fans were fed John Cena as the man of the people from about 2005 to 2015 (longer than the course of two presidential terms), and were turned off by what they were seeing. They wanted new stars. They wanted more exciting angles, and wanted a reason to care. Vince would have to assure them that he can provide his massive, worldwide audience with people that can appeal to the casual and hardcore fans out there. It's not exactly easy to do, but in order to bridge the growing divide between the two sides, he needs to find the man or woman who can bring us all back together.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
