10 Things WCW Ripped Off

Mortal Kombat hit arcades in 1992 and had a generation of teenagers ripping out each other's spinal columns with parent-alarming glee. In 1996 WCW caught up with the craze with Glacier, a wrestler whose look and mannerisms closely aped the game's chilliness-themed ninja Sub-Zero. His mask, costume armour and lengthy kata ring intro all suggested an otherworldiness lifted from Midway Games' pioneering beat 'em up. Glacier's insanely expensive entrance, with lasers and fake snowfall, and martial arts moveset wasn't the end of WCW's appropriation, though.

To give Glacier something to do, another MK-esque character Mortis was introduced, a sinister skull-masked figure billed as a Taipei pit fighter. The equally Kombative grappler Wrath later joined him to beat up Glacier at every opportunity. Finally, to complete the tag team foursome Ernest 'The Cat' Miller was thrown into the mix, a move which made a typically WCW-level of sense since Miller had nothing to do with any of this.
