10 Things We Learned From Bret Hart On Stone Cold’s Broken Skull Sessions Podcast
5. Steve Warned Bret About WCW
At one point in the interview, Austin revealed that he'd pinned Bret down backstage and talked to him about the perils of jumping to WCW. Steve had been there before, and he didn't think the company knew what the hell they were really doing. He wanted to let Hart know that before he took the plunge.
Bret appreciated the heads up.
Kevin Nash did the same years before when he first joined the WWF in 1993. He'd told Bret that WCW was a snakebitten place that was mired in board room politics and silly in-fighting. This all raced through Hart's head again when he faxed a WCW contract off and confirmed his departure from Vince McMahon's bosom.
Just like that, he was off to Atlanta. It didn't sit well with Austin, but he knew his friend had to make up his own mind. Bret would find out first hand why Steve was so concerned. His WCW experience was the pits, and it killed his buzz for wrestling.
