10 Things We Learned From Brodie Lee On Talk Is Jericho
3. Lee Was Supposed To Be Sami Zayn's Heater
Then, just like that, any direction he did have was cancelled.
Lee revealed on the pod that he was supposed to re-debut as Sami Zayn's heater on the post-WrestleMania 35 edition of SmackDown. It wasn't a spot that filled him with glee. He'd been a background character since the start in WWE, and wasn't turned on by the thought of doing it yet again, even for someone as talented as Sami.
Even so, he went along with it because it was something to do. Typically, WWE binned the entire thing within the span of a few days and Brodie was back to sitting at home twiddling his thumbs. He never got any word on exactly why the company decided not to press ahead with the Zayn plan.
Brodie's attitude towards the idea wasn't a reflection on Sami, but it likely wouldn't have worked when he was already doubting it going in. Lee was choking to do something for himself rather than playing second fiddle, and he knew playing Diesel to Zayn's HBK would be another false dawn.
