10 Things We Learned From Cody Rhodes On Out Of Character
6. Cody’s Thoughts On “Being A Mark”
Recently, William Regal told Chris Jericho that he hates the term "mark". Cody Rhodes...looks at the word differently. He flat out said, "You have to be a mark to be successful at what we do". That seemed to catch Satin a little bit by surprise (check out his expression on the video version of the pod).
Clarifying, Cody said he's never understood when pro wrestlers pretend they don't care one bit about things like Dave Meltzer's star ratings or the PWI Top 500. They might not care completely, but they do care a little bit; the phrase, 'doth protest too much' springs to mind here.
Everyone likes to be loved, and nobody truly enjoys being criticised.
It's fun to hear a major wrestling star openly admit to 'being a mark' on WWE's platform. That term has been used disparagingly towards eager fans over the years, but Rhodes is having none of that. He's happy to admit that he's capable of being marky too.
