10 Things We Learned From Cody Rhodes On Out Of Character

3. He Regrets AEW’s World Title Angle

Ryan Satin Cody Rhodes Out Of Character
AEW

This is one of Cody's biggest AEW regrets.

The 'American Nightmare' lost an AEW World Title match to Chris Jericho way back at Full Gear 2019. That, in storyline, barred him from every challenging for the belt again. In hindsight, Rhodes believes he "boxed [himself] out of the top spot for no good reason.

He definitely wouldn't make such a decision now and told Satin he's "the best wrestler in the world" in his own mind. Is that arrogance and/or character-rich bluff? Possibly, but there's a self-confidence to Cody that pours out of the man during every interview these days.

Back then, he was aware of his stature behind the scenes in AEW. On screen, he didn't want to offend colleagues by booking himself in the featured position on TV. That was a mistake, and something he wishes he could change looking back.

The angle didn't leave him much wriggle room as a performer.
