Rhodes was keen to stress the pivotal role Randy Orton played in helping him emerge from the shadow of his family ties. Orton's Legacy faction, which also included Ted DiBiase Jr, was a real learning curve for Cody. It's also a period he will never forget.

Why? Well, WWE management went out of their way to make Rhodes vs. DiBiase a genuine competition. Yes, it's true - 'Well, which one of you is it gonna be?' was the question posed. In other words, WWE's top brass wanted to find out which young boy would break free of the pack to become a top singles star.

Cody revealed that this poisoned him a little at the time. He grew addicted to the thought of being on top, and that diverted some of his attention away from the task at hand. Looking back, Rhodes thinks Legacy realistically should've lasted at least another year before imploding.

Fair point.
