10 Things We Learned From Dark Side Of The Ring: Billy Jack Haynes
1. Billy Jack Calls His Wife’s Murder “A Mercy Killing”
When detained by police, Billy Jack said his 85 year old wife Janette Becraft had terrible dementia and that he found it unbearable. He called her murder “a mercy killing” after being arrested for shooting her in the head. VICE then caught comments from one of his friends, who says Jan “was his world”.
Man, nobody seems sure what to believe about the guy or anything he says/does. It's insane.
Hayes has since pleaded not guilty to second degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon. Becraft’s family, who didn’t approve of the relationship in the first place, refused to comment when asked by VICE. Now, Billy Jack’s trial is set for December 2025, so he'll find out then whether or not he'll spend the rest of his life behind bars.
At time of writing, Haynes is 71 years old. So, assuming he's found guilty of the crime, he'd realistically never be a free man again. The whole recap of Becraft's death ended this week's 'Dark Side' episode on a real low note, but that might sound a tad strange considering some of the other stuff Billy Jack got up to during his life and career.
He claimed to sell an endless quantity of drugs during his prime in the 1980s, was potentially attacked by gangs for stealing money from them, involved himself in a cold case about two teenagers dying on train tracks, said he might be Vince McMahon Sr's son, and is currently on trial for charges of second degree murder.
Nobody has a story quite like Billy Jack Haynes. Nobody wants a story quite like him.
