8. What Owen Told Oje At The Airport

The day before, Owen drove to the airport in Calgary with his son Oje. That was uncommon, but Owen told Martha he was meeting his mother Helen off another flight and that she'd drive his son back to the house afterwards. So, Oje jumped in the car and waved his dad off to work.

He couldn't have known then that he'd never see him again.

Oje told VICE what his father said to him right before walking off with his bag to catch the plane. "Look after your mom and sister", he said, before giving Oje a hug and leaving him with his grandmother. Those final words would become poignant for the kid, especially when he realised that his dad was putting them before himself.

It's hard to see Oje, who really resembles Owen, relive the last time he'd ever see his dad look happy. Despite what happened next, Oje said he'll always treasure the time he did have with his father.
