10 Things We Learned From Dark Side Of The Ring: Terry Gordy

2. Ray Almost Teamed With His Dad

This is a real sad story.

Terry asked his son Ray to be his tag-team partner on a show in July 2001, but Ray couldn’t make the booking. Literally the next day, Ray got a call to say his father had stopped breathing and was gone. For a while, he was kicking himself for not being there when Terry needed him most, but that's totally unfair.

Time has healed a few of those wounds, at least partially. Looking back, as rough as the period between 1993-2001 was for Terry and the entire family, Ray is grateful he got to spend so much time with his dad. They became great friends, and he’ll always cherish those days despite the trials and tribulations Gordy was going through.

It's incredible to think that Terry's wrestling brain was still on just 24 hours before his death. Teaming with his boy would've been a heartwarming moment for both, but it wasn't to be.
