10 Things We Learned From Dark Side Of The Ring: WWE’s Steroid Trials
8. The Genius Of Laura Brevetti
McDevitt was/is a wily one.
The judge deemed that Jerry was too close to Hulk Hogan personally. That meant McDevitt couldn't handle Vince's defence when Hulk took to the stand to testify. In a genius move, Jerry brought another attorney called Laura Brevetti into the mix. She was well-drilled and knew exactly what her role was.
Amazingly, Brevetti represented McMahon and cross examined Hogan in the process. Meanwhile, McDevitt was able to cross examine the 'Hulkster' from afar himself and advise accordingly. That's quite incredible attention to detail from Jerry, and it's almost hard not to applaud him for adapting on the fly.
Almost everybody on the WWF side guessed that Hogan would bury McMahon too, but that didn't necessarily happen. In fact, Hulk said that perhaps the entire wrestling industry should pay, and told the jury that Vince wasn't some isolated problem for workers plying their trade in the biz.
McDevitt pointed out that this was a blow to the prosecution.
