10 Things We Learned From Dark Side Of The Ring's Evan Husney
3. Winning Over Martha Hart
While each and every story featured across Dark Side of the Ring's two seasons are fascinating and detailed in ways rarely seen, two of the topics of the second season that will grab the attention more than most for the majority of viewers will be those of the Benoit Tragedy and the sad loss of Owen Hart.
What adds an extra level of interest to the Owen episode, is that Evan Husney and Jason Eisener had the privilege to sit down with Martha and Oje Hart to tell their story.
In the 21 years since the devastating loss of Owen at 1999's Over the Edge PPV, the legendary grappler's family have understandably steered clear of the wrestling business. And from our time speaking to Evan, it appears that his honesty went a long way in getting Martha and Oje to agree to be a part of Dark Side of the Ring.
Detailing the initial discussions with Martha, Evan told us, "We had dinner and we talked about this episode and what we wanted to do. I didn't hold anything back, and they didn't hold anything back, in terms of what we wanted to get out of this piece and what we wanted to do with it and how we wanted to present it. I think what sealed the deal was she remarked, 'You weren't afraid to tell me certain things, even though you were worried about the outcome of what you were saying.'"
It's also worth noting that Martha offered up hours and hours of family videos shot by or featuring Owen - which is unprecedented, unseen, and will give an amazing insight into the very real life of one of pro wrestling's most beloved figures.
