10 Things We Learned From Eric Bischoff's Starrcade 1997 Podcast
1. He Made Between 650-750k Per Year At His Peak
One of the more interesting stories from Bischoff on the podcast revolved around how much money he made during his core years in WCW. It might not be as much as some think (depending on individual feelings about what constitutes a lot of money for a high-ranking member of pro wrestling management).
When he first signed on as a C-string announcer, Bischoff earned $70,000 per year. When he agreed to move to Atlanta, that was bumped up to $125,000. Later, when he was promoted to Executive Producer, the number inflated to $175,000, and it settled at around $500,000 with incentives once he became Vice President.
Those incentives were all objective-based, and Eric says he met them easily. When bonuses were added on to his base salary, he was making between $650-750,000 at his peak in WCW. That, as hardcore fans will know, is nowhere near the millions top-level talent were taking from company coffers.
According to Eric, he could have written his own contract (he renewed right before Starrcade), but didn't in the end. If he had, he admits he might've been tempted to take more money.
