Austin was fascinated to hear that Goldberg still has his old WCW training tapes. He set up a video camera every single day he worked drills in the facility, and that footage is still in his house somewhere. Watching it when he got home motivated Bill to keep on working, and it showed him what he still had to improve on.

Ripping people's heads off wasn't an area of weakness.

Goldberg thinks he was onto something unique in the mid-90s, at least for major companies. During his down time, he'd watch a ton of tape from companies like Pancrase and the UWF in Japan, and he fancied melding the MMA stylings of those groups with WCW's own style. Crucially, he also wanted to do it without actually hurting anyone.

WCW jobbers Kenny Chaos and Robby Rage helped Bill experiment. They bumped around a lot for him in the Power Plant and never once complained about the rough treatment when he'd try some MMA stuff. Their help, and Goldberg's own self-study, honed his act.
