10 Things We Learned From Kane On Talk Is Jericho
4. Kane Was Originally A One-Night-Only Deal
Anyone who has followed the Big Red Machine's career closely will know that Kane isn't the first guise he has worn in WWE. Before October 1997, he also portrayed Isaac Yankem, a psychopathic dentist, and the fake Diesel.
And, so it emerged on the podcast, the gimmick for which he is most famous was intended to be an equally short-lived persona. In fact, it was suggested that this was originally supposed to be a one-night-only deal.
However, Vince McMahon apparently loved the idea so much that he decided to make it a permanent part of his programming, intending for Kane to resemble some sort of wrestling superhero, replete with a mask and, yes, even a cape.
This perhaps serves to remind us that, for all the flak he takes (some of it justified, some not), the chairman of the WWE board is nothing if not adept at sniffing out wrestling gold. Without his vision, one of the best characters in the company's history might have only seen the light of day once.
