10 Things We Learned From Kane On Talk Is Jericho
3. JR Was Supposed To Be Fake Diesel's Manager
Inevitably, one of the topics discussed at length during Kane's appearance on Talk is Jericho was the difficult introduction he had to life on the WWE roster, during which he flailed aimlessly from one doomed gimmick to the next.
One of those failed experiments came in late 1996 when he re-debuted as Diesel, an imitation of the Kevin Nash character of the same name who departed the company for WCW earlier in the year.
Kane says that, under this guise, it was originally planned that Jim Ross to become his manager. The beloved Monday Night Raw commentator was supposed to take both him and Fake Razor Ramon (Rick Bognar) under his wing as part of a long-term storyline.
Suffice to say, the angle was so poorly received that it ended up being dropped altogether in a matter of weeks. After appearing in the Royal Rumble, Kane was sent back to the drawing board one last time, where they finally came good on their promise of a worthwhile gimmick with the conception of the Big Red Machine.
