Around that same time, some of old Mark's old peers started to talk.

Newcomers on the powerlifting scene also remarked that he shouldn't be allowed to use the 'World's Strongest Man' name, mainly because he hadn't been competing in the sport for years. P*ssed off and fired up, Henry vowed to prove he was what he claimed, and called Vince McMahon with the news.

Unsurprisingly, Vince (who was likely feeling he'd never see any return on his significant investment five years earlier) told him he'd green light a crack at the Arnold Classic under one condition: if Henry didn't win, he'd be out of there. To the boss, the WWF had no place for the world's second strongest man.

That intolerance of failure hit Henry hard. He suddenly realised that his star power was rapidly fading and that he'd have to win at all costs. It really didn't help that his mother passed during all of this either.
